A fictional mid-sized city is gripped by a rapidly spreading hoax about a public-health emergency. Within hours the story has gone viral and every stakeholder - from City Hall to social media - is reacting. Players are assigned roles that shape how they receive and share information, forcing them to reckon with the mechanics of misinformation in real time.
Over the course of the simulation players must verify sources under deadline pressure, craft strategic communications for their own audience, and decide how much truth the public can handle.
Undergraduate and community-college students in Sociology, Media Studies, Journalism, Communications, and Public Health.
